From a Scrapbook Article Furnished by the Third Floor Ladies John Wesley Bratton Beautiful Tribute To His Memory By Dr. J. W. Daily 1470 Washington St., Boston May 1, 1903 (Conclusion) What the future has in store for us no one can possibly tell, but most of us have our opinions. I am inclined to the belief that John Wesley Bratton is not dead; that there is no casket, no box of wood or metal, no mechanical device of any kind that could hold and fetter him to this earth, and that he has never been buried at all. It is true that the seal of the sepulcher holds and conceals all that our eyes could see and all that our hands could touch, but that which was really and truly John Wesley, that which thought, felt, loved and bound, and that which served with a generous loving nature, his friends and people, has not died, never will die, and can never be buried. When properly considered death seems to be a blessing to mankind and instead of something to be dreaded and therefore, I do not believe—I cannot believe—that death even entered the world as a result of sin. I do not believe that it ever came as a punishment for a racial transgression, but if the future is what we hope that it may be death is simply an essential part of the eternal, loving order of things, and the only possible means through which the departed spirit world can be opened—a world with unlimited opportunities …(the last line is totally unreadable.) John Wesley Daily (Editor’s Note: According to an article in The Robertson County Review about Bratton’s Mill, KY compiled by Alta Mae Walton in July 1971, John Wesley Bratton, May 10, 1830 - April 13, 1903, James Bratton, August 20, 1822 September 2, 1884 and Aaron Bratton, December 4, 1818 - September 13, 1887 were three of the thirteen children of John Bratton, prominent land owner, October 6, 1791 April 10, 1846 and Nancy Hitt Bratton, August 7, 1799 - June 27, 1859) 1st offense, dismissed.
